ACS Laboratory strives to deliver precise test results to our Amanita mushroom clients, ensuring they can offer the highest quality products possible.
Amanita mushrooms are lesser known than the federally-illicit psilocybin-containing varieties. Still, Amanita mushrooms are increasingly popular for their distinct psychoactive effects and unregulated active ingredients. As the interest in Amanita muscaria mushrooms continues to grow, there is a pressing need to quantify their potency and purity accurately. We issue certificates of analysis for all Amanita samples to our clients, helping them prove safety and compliance with the Controlled Substances Act.
The Amanita potency tests quantify the presence of the mushroom’s main active ingredients.
To ensure that the Amanita Mushrooms are 100% compliant, we also offer our specialized Potency 9 test which tests for Psilocybin, Psilocin (both Schedule 1) as well as 7 other analytes.
The full panel purity tests ensure products are free from harmful contaminants like pesticides, residual solvents (extracts) and heavy metals.
What We Look for in Amanita Potency Tests
Safe, ingestible Amanita products typically contain muscimol only and are free from potentially toxic ibotenic acid, muscarine, and muscazone.
Muscimol - Muscimol is a psychoactive alkaloid that acts as an agonist of the GABA receptor, resulting in sedative and hallucinogenic effects. Muscimol converts to Ibotenic Acid in the body.
Ibotenic Acid - Ibotenic acid is a psychoactive amino acid that acts as an agonist of the glutamate receptor and in higher amounts can cause neurotoxicity. When mushrooms contain more ibotenic acid than muscimol, users typically report confusion, agitation, and euphoria.
Muscarine - Muscarine is a potentially toxic alkaloid when ingested in high quantities that acts as a nonselective agonist of the acetylcholine receptor, causing symptoms such as sweating, salivation, and blurred vision.

Are Amanita Mushrooms Legal?
Amanita mushrooms are not specifically listedas a controlled substance under the federal laws of the United States. State laws may vary. For instance, Louisiana explicitly prohibits Amanita muscaria production and distribution.
FAQS
State and federal governments do not regulate Amanita mushroom products or testing. To avoid penalties and ensure customer safety, Amanita brands must consider ACS Laboratory’s potency panel, compliance panel to rule out federally scheduled psilocybin, and purity panel.
Potency testing accurately and dependably quantifies muscimol, ibotenic acid, and other active compounds and amino acids. These measurements can be quantified up to 1/10th of 1% and 1/10th of a milligram, and expressed in parts per billion, which makes them reliable for both small and large doses. The precision of potency testing is particularly valuable when measuring lower doses.
We test Amanita products using various quantitative measures and analytical instruments. These can include HPLC/MSMS/HPLCUV, GC/MS, and ICP/MS, among others.
State and federal laws do not regulate Amanita mushroom testing. Still, brands should prioritize testing products for potency and purity to ensure consumer safety and prevent regulatory overreach.
By conducting thorough testing, brands can ensure that their products are free from harmful contaminants and accurately labeled. This protects customers from potential harm and helps establish trustand credibility. Additionally, testing can help brands stay compliant with future regulations and avoid costly fines or legal action.
