In the dynamic sphere of botanical analysis, ACS Laboratory consistently raises the bar, championing innovation, precision, and a commitment to the communities it serves.
Now the team has embarked on an exciting new venture with Mitra Science, a leading global biotech company focused on Mitragyna species. ACS Laboratory has developed the most comprehensive Kratom testing currently available worldwide.
ACS’s protocol determines the alkaloid potency profile of every Kratom plant and product it tests so consumers, vendors, and stakeholders know precisely what they’re getting. The extensive analysis also includes purity testing for contaminants like heavy metals, microbes, pesticides, and residual solvents. Product types include Kratom leaves, extracts, beverages, and edibles.
Kratom alkaloids, the active compounds found in the plant’s leaves, have long been of interest to researchers and consumers for their therapeutic and stimulating properties. ACS Laboratory will initially analyze Kratom’s eight principal alkaloids:
The team has also corresponded with renowned Kratom researcher Dr. Christopher McCurdy on three additional alkaloids; Corynantheidine, Mitraciliatine, and Isopaynantheine. These are among the alkaloids identified in human plasma after Kratom ingestion, holding exceptional relevance for consumers and the industry. ACS is currently seeking Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) for these alkaloids.
Beyond potency, ACS emphasizes the importance of heavy metal testing for all plants and products. The team added Manganese to its Kratom heavy metals protocol based on a 2022 study conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University, which revealed heightened levels of this compound in Kratom. The analysis also includes Arsenic, Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, and Nickel.
The rigorous purity testing process also analyzes over 80 pesticides and residual solvents pertinent to Kratom extract while prioritizing microbial safety. ACS’ microbial testing extends to total aerobic plate count, total yeast and mold, E. coli, Salmonella, and coliforms, ensuring that products are free from harmful bacteria and fungi.
ACS recognizes that test results can be too technical for many consumers and vendors to interpret. So the team set precise pass and fail parameters for heavy metals and microbial tests. These parameters are based on guidelines from the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA). A clear pass/fail indicator means clients and customers can immediately determine whether products meet desired safety standards.
Unfortunately, some products don’t.
Kratom growers and manufacturers don’t always harvest or process in alignment with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). An open-air drying process, inadequate hygiene, and unsanitary water for washing leaves can lead to contaminated products, emphasizing the importance of a robust testing regimen.
ACS’s Kratom program gives consumers peace of mind that the products they buy are safe to ingest while supporting an industry based on trust, quality, and transparency.
