BOCA RATON, FL ― (July 21, 2020) ― ACS Laboratory, the top-ranking laboratory for precision testing and recipient of the most Emerald Test™ Badges in the country in 2019 for cannabis testing facilities, has expanded its testing capabilities from testing for 16 cannabinoids to 17 cannabinoids. Adding Cannabicitran (CBT) to the list of cannabinoids it tests, ACS Laboratory is the only lab in the Southeast U.S. to test for 17 total cannabinoids.
“Adding CBT to the list of cannabinoids we test is just the beginning ― we are continuously developing new tests so we can support the research and development necessary to create higher quality products and medicines,” said Roger Brown, president and CEO of ACS Laboratory, a pioneer in cannabis research and development. “We hope to analyze more cannabinoids than any other lab in the U.S., as there is much more to be done to understand how cannabis’ hundreds of therapeutic cannabinoids synergize in the body,” he continued.
CBT was first isolated in 1971. While little is known about the compound, it has inspired curiosity of consumer product companies, scientists, and researchers all over the world. Researchers have discovered CBT is the most concentrated in distillates from CBD-dominant, low THC cannabis varieties. Chemically, CBT has the same relationship to CBD as CBD has with THC.
One animal study performed by cannabis researcher Mahmoud ElSohly showed that CBT could reduce eye pressure. This provides hope that the compound could potentially treat related diseases. ElSohly is the director of the University of Mississippi’s Marijuana Research Project, the only legal source of marijuana that can be used for medical research in the United States. While research on minor cannabinoids has been suppressed in the past, the recent legalization of hemp allows for more studies, and ACS Laboratory is pleased to support expanded research.
ACS Laboratory, The Most Trusted Cannabis and Hemp Laboratory in the USA™, is Florida’s largest ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Accredited by A2LA #6786.01 DEA licensed and CLIA licensed laboratory designated by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) to provide sample collection and testing services. It is also deemed a “Certified Marijuana Testing Laboratory” by the Florida Department of Health (DOH).
The focus of ACS Laboratory is to continue to support and enhance the ability for cannabis and hemp companies and brands to deliver clean, safe products; and do so in a manner that promotes positive standards throughout the industry. ACS Laboratory was awarded with 21 coveted Emerald Test badges in 2019, the most that year of any laboratory in the entire U.S. These test badges compare cannabis laboratories’ ability to deliver reliable results, using standards established in the environmental, food, pharmaceutical, water and petrochemical industries.
In spring 2020, ACS Laboratory acquired Botanica Testing, Inc., a certified hemp and CBD testing laboratory, which added 500 new hemp and CBD clients to its existing, and rapidly growing, portfolio. This acquisition increased ACS Laboratory’s customer reach to 44 states throughout the U.S.
ACS Laboratory is The Most Trusted Cannabis and Hemp Laboratory in the USA™, earning more Emerald Test Badges for accuracy in testing last year than any other laboratory. ACS is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Accredited by A2LA #6786.01, DEA licensed and CLIA licensed with the largest state-of-the-art facility in the eastern USA. Compliant with the USDA’s rules for hemp testing, ACS Laboratory is also contracted by the Florida Department of Agriculture (FDACS) as an “Official Designated Laboratory,” for testing Florida Hemp and deemed a “Certified Marijuana Testing Laboratory” by the Florida Department of Health (DOH).
Beyond compliance, ACS is committed to innovation, which is why it tests for more cannabinoids than any lab in the eastern USA and continuously develops new protocols to analyze lesser-known toxins. Its 20,000-sq.-ft. facility utilizes industry-leading ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry technology and proprietary protocols to ensure accurate detection. The in-house dedicated scientific team is continuously developing new technology, refining current methods, procedures and protocols.
ACS Laboratory’s continued commitment to educating farmers, manufacturers, makers and consumers can be seen in its content-rich blog series.
